⇒ There’s actually a fair amount of research as to the amount of muscle that most women find attractive.
You need to realize, however, that this is not a set in stone psychological finding.
I know girls who want to have a giant man with bulging biceps and a back broader than a dump truck.
I also know women who are repulsed by the bodybuilder type physiques and instead opt to date “skinny fat” or just plain skinny guys.
So while there isn’t a one size fits all answer to your question, there is a “One Size Fits Most”.
But it’s important to realize that muscle mass is only ONE of many physical features that women find attractive.
So to help you maximize your physical attractiveness, I’ll give you a few other quick tips to help you look your best and attract the woman/women of your dreams.
*Note: Before we get started, I want to make sure that you realize one important caveat. Any man, short, tall, muscular, skinny, whatever can attract a beautiful woman. To most women, physical looks are far less important than the way you make them FEEL emotional and the positive qualities that you display. If you want to dive more into this to really understand what I mean then check out this answer on “How Unnatractive Men Can Date Beautiful Women”.
Now… Let’s dive in.
1. Women Want LESS Muscle than You Think
Researchers at UCLA conducted an interesting study to determine the correlation between a man’s muscle mass and his sexual desirability.
What they found was really surprising.
Even as a self-proclaimed evolutionary psychology buff, I was pretty surprised at what their research concluded.
Take a look…
Can you guess which of the above body types women ranked as most attractive?
No… It wasn’t brawny or even built.
The majority of the women in the study ranked the “Toned” physique as the most sexually desirable.
I know… WTF? Right?
Although the sample size of the study doesn’t make this research conclusive, several other studies have been conducted with similar results.
Simply put, women want a lot less muscle than most guys think.
And this makes sense when you think about things from an evolutionary perspective.
To our hunter-gatherer minds, muscle mass can actually pose a detriment to long-term survival, not a benefit.
If a guy carries a lot of extra muscle mass, then he will need more calories to survive and, even though he’ll be better equipped to defend himself and Mrs. Gatherer, his sheer size and caloric demands pose a serious evolutionary risk.
Obviously, in 2018, guys who are #built don’t have to worry about starving on the planes of Sub Saharan Africa, but our brains haven’t caught up to this reality yet.
If you’re already a bodybuilder with a physique like Thor’s, don’t worry. There are plenty of women who will giggle like school girls over your popping pecs and bulging biceps.
But if you’re an otherwise scrawny guy, you can take a deep breath and relax.
The science is in and women don’t need you to be the next Jeff Seid or Lazar Angelov to find you attractive.
However, what we have noticed from the research is that proportions and leanness are more important than mass.
2. Proportions and Leanness Are More Important than Mass
What studies have found over and over again throughout history is that the ideal physique, according to our current social constructs has less to do with mass and more to do with leanness and proportions.
For example, in the UCLA study, the following three physiques were consistently ranked as the LEAST attractive body types.
Notice how these body types have roughly the same height/weight and BMI as the three body types showcased earlier.
But the difference is that the physiques that were deemed most attractive were all of the LEAN and well-proportioned men who had solid amounts of muscle and a waist to shoulder ration of ~1.68 (the “Golden Ratio” or Adonis number).
The research makes it pretty clear that women far prefer lean and muscular men to their higher body fat counterparts.
So if you want to set a training goal to attract women, your goal should be to get lean First and then pack on some extra muscle.
3. Height Plays a Big Role in Physical Attractiveness
One factor that is (largely) outside of your control that plays a big role in determining your sexual desirability is height.
Simply put, taller guys have an easier time attracting women.
It sucks, but it’s just the reality.
Heck, studies have even found that 6′ tall men will earn, on average, more than $150,000 more over the course of a 30-year career than their 5′ 5″ counterparts.
So does this mean you’re completely screwed if you aren’t tall?
Well… No.
It simply means that you’ll need to maximize what you’ve got.
Do lots of yoga and practice great posture.
Visit a chiropractor to fix any physical imbalances that might be stunting your height.
Style your hair in a way that adds volume and height to your face.
Buy boots and dress shoes with a 1–2″ heel to add a little bit of height to your frame.
A little can go a long way.
4. Smell is Regularly Ranked As One of the Most Important Factors in Sexual Desirability
Countless studies have shown that even more than muscularity, women care about the smell of their potential partners.
And this makes sense…
Pheremones (the natural scent produced by your body) is a biological indicator of your general health and suitability to mate.
It’s a subconscious cue to women that you are worthy of providing them with children (again, from an evolutionary perspective).
Ironically, most guys completely screw this up by plastering themselves with nasty colognes and deodorants (like Axe) that cover up their natural pheromones and smell… Frankly, like crap.
If you want to make sure that you’re optimizing all of your physical features to attract women, ditch the cologne.
Shower regularly with a mildly scented soap, paying special attention to areas of your body that accumulate lots of sweat.
But other than that, let your natural scent serve as your cologne.
It might sound counterintuitive, but the research has clearly shown that this is a quick and easy way to boost your sexual desirability.
Assuming that you’re in good health and eat clean that is.
5. Develop a Sexy Voice
The final physical feature that women find attractive, although not necessarily physique related, is your voice.
Women have consistently reported across a wide variety of polls that one of the most attractive features a man can have is a deep and resonant voice.
Luckily for you, this is something that can be developed even if you’ve long since passed through puberty.
By practicing regular vocal exercises, maintaining strong posture, and being cognizant of how your voice sounds you can easily add some extra resonance and depth to your voice, no matter how you sound today.
Conclusion
That’s it.
If you want to attract the right kind of women, I’d highly recommend that you focus first and foremost on your personal character traits, personality, and conversation abilities.
Trust me, this will do more for helping your dating game than any amount of muscle ever could.
Hope this helps
